Growing Like Weeds

Brigid’s D-litter have had a wealth of new experiences in the past week-and-a-half!  At 3.5-weeks-old, we expanded their puppy pen and began adding new items each day.  Every morning, they have woken to discover new toys which make unexpected noises, new surfaces to walk on, new stuffies to wrestle with, and new “scary” objects to get used to.  Every puppy in the litter has taken it all in stride, exploring each new item with curiosity and confidence.  We haven’t had one single fear response from any of the puppies!

The puppies have also begun eating solid foods.  This litter, along with last year’s C-litter, are our third generation of raw-fed dogs!  Brigid has been raw-fed since she ate her first solid meal, and was born to a raw-fed mama (Priya). The puppies started with a fully-balanced meal of turkey grind (turkey meat, organ, and bones) from Mega Dog Raw mixed with organic, full-fat goat’s milk.  The first meal was a big success! This litter has been slower than previous litters to become super enthusiastic about solid food, most likely because Brigid produces a mind-boggling abundance of mama milk and feeds the puppies often!

The D-litter has met dozens of new people in the past week.  Friends of my children, owners of dogs from previous litters, and my staff and students at school are among the new people the puppies have spent time with.

All in all, this litter of puppies is developing beautifully, with outstanding personalities and confidence.  I can’t wait to see what the next few weeks bring!
